How to render asciidoc tables to text?

Question

I have some asciidoc documentation with tables, and I would like to render them for output to a text console. I'm looking for a rendition something like markdown:

| Item         | Price     | # In stock |
|--------------|-----------|------------|
| Juicy Apples | 1.99      | *7*        |
| Bananas      | **1.89**  | 5234       |

Is there an existing solution that renders adoc to markdown? Or do I have to write something to re-render these tables?
