I'm trying to upgrade Cabal on Linux:
$ cabal --version
cabal-install version 1.16.0.2
using version 1.16.0 of the Cabal library
And I get plenty of errors:
$ cabal install cabal cabal-install

Most likely what has happened is that you've upgraded GHC, and GHC 7.10 requires Cabal 1.22, otherwise the error
ghc: ghc no longer supports single-file style package databases (dist/package.conf.inplace) use 'ghc-pkg init' to create the database with the correct format.
appears. Since you're on Ubuntu you can installcabal-install
from the PPA:Since the PPA install location is isn't in the PATH you can either add
/opt/cabal/1.22/bin
to your PATH, or optionally run/opt/cabal/1.22/bin/cabal install cabal
if you prefer to have all your Haskell binaries in one location and later uninstallcabal-install
withapt-get
.Otherwise there are binaries available at haskell.org.
