I am in the prosses of building a turn-based strategy game on Android and plan to use Google's game service API to facilitate this. Specifically the turn-based multiplayer client. With the nature of this app, it requires that players can communicate with each other privately.

I know the general rule is to keep it to one question, though all of these are different forms of the same question:

  • Does the Google Games service contain messaging functionality?
  • Can Firebase Cloud Messaging be used in tandem (while serverless)?
  • Will it work in the way I'm thinking it will?
  • How would you recommend I accomplish this?

I've been attempting to research this for the past few days, though It's been quite confusing.
