remove item from the list in multi-AutoCompleteTextView after selecting specific item

How can I remove item from the list in multi-autocompleteTextview .SO if I have selected the item at position 1 in the adapter then I should delete it so that same item should never be allowed to select again. Reference link :http://wptrafficanalyzer.in/blog/customizing-autocompletetextview-to-display-images-and-text-in-the-suggestion-list-using-simpleadapter-in-android/

I tried

aList.remove(position);
adapter.notifyDataSetChanged();

But its not working.I had added it inside AdapterView.OnItemClickListener() How can I make sure that same value should never appear in the multi-autocompletetextview?I really appreciate any help.

Try adding the line:

adapter.remove(the_string)

After the addition:

aList.removeAt(position);
adapter.remove(the_string)
adapter.notifyDataSetChanged()
